As a member of the CACGV, I had the opportunity to admit a proposal for a show, that I called Flowers and Fairytales, to be displayed at a library. I was accepted and the library available was the Saanich Centennial Library, which is attached to the Pearkes Arena facility, from April to July, 2015. I showed 7 paintings and two drawings, which you can see more clearly posted on this website under Artworks. The library was limited to where the artwork could be shown because most of the space there is taken up by bookshelves, naturally! I was able to choose enough artworks to show what I have done in the past and what I have recently been working on - my latest "Night Garden" series, of which I hung two paintings, seen in my previous blog entry. It was a great show because my earlier paintings, which I decided to label "fairytale", were very appropriate for the library due to their allegorical images. The consistent aspect of these diverse images is the colour pallet of purple, turquoise, blue, green, pink and golden yellows. This pallet was strongly evident in the large wall display of 5 paintings. These two drawings are typical of my process, as I started drawing with an oval for the face and continuing the image as I drew, without an end image in mind. The right hand drawing is in pencil crayon, the left hand drawing in graphite. These two flower paintings show the beginning of my exploration of painting on black, the bottom image of poppies, and the upper image of my later, and more abstract direction, of the "Night Garden". These five paintings display the colour pallet that I prefer, and the earlier flower images I have painted in previoius years.
