I am currently continuing work on my latest shadow box, which I showed you the creative process, in an earlier blog. This is the picture of it in its first final stage. Now I'm working on bringing more texture to it, and changing the images somewhat to bring more character into the first draft.  All images are printed on card. Now I have to bring new textures in - the images will be richer, when printed with more appropriate textures. Also I'm going to change one or two images.

Just a little taste of the bit of chaos surrounding me at my desk in my studio (otherwise known as the "little bedroom").  Venetian mask and lion, a mini chest of drawers, a local artist fairy and a found doll that looks like an Asian fairy.  Italy calendar, wooden model columns, Venetian bottles, cards of Italian frescoe paintings, and some ceramic heads from another Italian town.  Asian hand cut paper art, aquarium columns, miniature wooden Thai spirit abode (?).  Card in the background is of the 12 Dancing Princesses, miniature theatre ornament, shells, mechanical singing bird.  Cut outs from magazines of marble busts, my own ceramic containers symbolizing water, earth and buried artifact, wooden flotsam from the beach.  Ferrero Rocher acrylic boxes filled with natural bits and pieces of leaves, flowers, twigs, insects, etc.  You might recognize this Mattel toy from the 70's - Kozmic Kiddles, on top of a display box with more natural bits and pieces.  And lastly, another Kiddles - this one a rose perfume Kiddle, and of course Topo Gigio ( though, yes, I did paint his former blue striped Lazio soccer jersey, with red nailpolish!!!) on top of a box displaying lichen, etc. I've been busy working on my first shadow box. I wanted to show you the process that I've gone through so far. I have so many images collected, that I just start looking through my files. I was attracted to these images from a magazine of these girls and used photos of my own from a local garden to start my process.  These are some images I've collected from magazines and photos printed of my pics of garden flowers.  I'm playing with the images to come to some arrangement. I've created a photo montage for the large girl's clothes from my own pics of flowers.  I've made a temporary cardboard box to work in before attaching everything in the wooden shadow box. I've decided this girl is to go in front. It's like she's escaping into the rose bloom.  I've added two midground images behind the first image. These are work-in-progress, as they are just printed on ordinary paper and I'm still working with the colour saturation and brightness.  I've added a background on the left hand side. I am still deciding what background to place on the right hand side. In the final set-up, I will be printing all images on acid free card and paper.  I bought a wooden shadow box from Michael's (craft store) and I am making it deeper by adding wooden pieces and then a panel to cover the two different wooden sides. |
